What would I do differently? Why?
As coach if I were to do anything differently, it would be to alter the contract. It had come to my attention that most conflicts occurred because of its existence but yet it played a vital role towards the end. Instead of having teachers write our progress report on a weekly basic, Coach Carter himself should check the attendance and have an interview with each individual player’s teachers. Acquiring information will help you decide on a plan which can improve the academic performance. Although, it is the student’s responsibility to up to date, we are after all dealing with a complex group of young adult. They are inexperienced and by feeding them which knowledge will surely have an affect on how they will continue to perform at school. Everyone may not have the same excuse but by doing so, it would also improve the honesty among the players. This would significantly improve communication between the team. Since the players are devoting time towards both school and basketball and if ever balancing both is a challenge, it should be acceptable for the players to complete their work in the court; similarly seen towards the end. Realizing they have less time for practice, it would motivate the players to work hard and finish their work quickly and efficiently.
